It might be summertime, but the Tulsa Public Schools family is all in to make sure our students and their families are prepared for the new school year!

As the first day of school - August 21, 2019 - quickly approaches, about 60 volunteers took to the streets to make sure our Monroe community had all their questions answered and to express how excited we are that they are attending Monroe.

Monroe Demonstration Academy is growing for the 2019-2020 school year, and for many, this will be the first time attending. Our volunteers went out with flyers and information about the school and to answer any questions.

"Service with a personal touch to our students and families," said event organizer Jamaal Dyer.

Monroe information and bus routes

During the two-day event, more than 50 volunteers made contact with nearly 200 students and families. It provided an opportunity for the community and Tulsa Public Schools to connect before school starts.

"The families we spoke with were excited to see Tulsa Public Schools take the time to come to their homes to give them information. Many said they'd never seen it done before and appreciated that they were going the extra mile to help," Jamaal said.

Creating that bond is essential to creating a great school experience. During the event, students meet their teachers, played basketball with volunteers, and shared great conversations.

"The families we spoke with said they plan to send their child to Monroe and are looking forward to great things," Jamaal said. "They were enthusiastic and we got to show how passionate Tulsa Public Schools is about building strong relationships with our students and families."

Monroe is holding Bridge Days for students to meet teachers, pick up schedules, and get to know new classmates. The Bridge Days will be at Monroe Demonstration Academy at 2010 E. 48th St. N. on:
